The Week in Tech: Amazon Fresh to shut down and Google ad tech remedies
Marketing Week’s weekly round-up of the technology stories that impact the marketing sector: from AI to martech, regulation to public perceptions.

On the agenda…
Amazon is set to close all its Amazon Fresh stores in the UK after the online retailer struggled to sell the British public on its till-free shopping experience.
Launched in 2021, Amazon Fresh was built on the idea shoppers would scan an app when entering a store, pick up the items they wanted and then their Amazon account would be automatically charged when they left. A series of cameras and other technology was utilised to make sure shoppers weren’t taking more than they should.
Coming post-pandemic, Amazon Fresh was seen as a smart way to introduce a contactless shopping experience. However, since then the business has struggled for traction in the UK and failed to make a dent in the market share of larger rivals like Tesco and Sainsbury’s.
